The Zebra

Continuing on from yesterday's sharing, I hunted out another of the blocks I'd sewn for Juliet (of Tartankiwi).
For some reason this one never made it to my blog. (Usually we're not able to share them while they're still in the writing phase.)
I sewed it some time ago but can't research that just now.

As with the Emu, it's a bigger block, approx 18". I love this fellow, I was so excited watching the stripes magically appear as I sewed the pieces together!
The colours aren't exactly right in these photos. The coloured fabrics are some I had leftover from my hexagon quilt years ago.
This was the first time I'd sewn with an abstract background and I really struggled with it. The pattern has a colouring chart which I used, but I still felt I didn't really nail it.
Looking at the block now perhaps I didn't do as bad a job as I remembered but I would like to somehow re-do the back ground. I love the zebra himself. I remember being very plesed with the fabric I found for the ears!

I got home from a day in town tonight to find that my main PC has had the hiccups and is doing something strange. I'm writing this on my tablet which of course is different to what I'm used to.
If it weren't for my 31 day challenge I would have gone to bed half an hour ago!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my computer's problem is easily remedied.
Watch this space!!

'til next time,
Happy stitches,
Raewyn.

  1. Your zebra is a gorgeous block. I do hope your computer glitch is something minor. When they work they are great, but when they play up they are a pain. Good luck.

  5. Your zebra is fabulous!!! I can totally see why you love him. The abstract background would be difficult, but I think it looks lovely!

  6. Lovely zebra, beautiful animal. The background is fine I think.... gets some of the African savanna colours…. I wonder what it is that you don't like about it....
    Hope the PC gets sorted....

  8. An abstract background would be a challenge for me too. Just love the zebra! And good on you for continuing with your 30 blog writing challenge, I wouldn't know how to do a blog on my smqll Ipad if my large computer gave up the ghost!

  14. Terrific zebra. I think the problem with the background is the few lighter areas really stand out. I have had a similar problem and I think the only way the lighter areas would work would be to imitate a beam of light... which is out of my artistic ability and would all depend on how the background pieces go together.

  15. Suz has an interesting idea there, a beam of light! Wow, what a spectacular finish that would be. And I love the 1930's reprints that I recognize in your background. I need to get mine out and make something with them!
