Today was my day dedicated to Christmas baking...I wasn't sure I'd get it done if I put it off any longer!
Part way through the day my kitchen looked a bit like this-
|
Stuff everywhere! |
But I got my Christmas cake made (late I know, my forebears would have had it made several months ago!), some gingerbread, fudge etc etc. By the end of it all I was ready to get to my machine and work on my Temecula Tiny Tree project.
This quiltalong came to an end a few days ago and I still had a couple of the blocks to make before I could start assembling it.
|
Block Nine - Yule Log |
|
Block ten - the Hourglass |
|
Block eleven - 9-patch |
Putting it together below. I decided to use a Christmassy fabric for the background and a constant fabric for my wee setting triangles (the outer branches of the tree). Although I love the scrappy look, I thought it would set all the blocks off nicely if I did that.
|
The green setting triangles are trimmed next, coming out 1/4" from the edge of the blocks. |
|
My Tiny Tree |

The blocks all work together surprisingly well. |

A Sampler Tiny Tree! |
Thank you to the team at the Temecula Quilt Company. It was a fun little quiltalong. I'm not sure it will be quilted by this Christmas...but wouldn't that be a nice thought?!
Now, if you promise not to laugh too loudly, I'll pop in a photo of my Gingerbread men. I used the small cutter so they're only about three inches high. I had trouble finding tiny things for eyes (no pre-planning going on around here!) so sultanas cut into quarters were my very fiddly solution.
|
At least they're edible! |
So while you're rolling around the floor in laughter, I'll leave it there for tonight.
(My eighteenth day of my 31 days of blogging challenge!)
'til next time,
Happy stitches
Lovely cookies! Would you believe I haven't baked a single cookie? The problem is if I bake them, I eat them. I will be baking some Christmas breads next week. The tiny Christmas tree is very cute, doesn't have to be quilted to be displayed. Happy Stitching!
ReplyDeleteGee, your tiny tree turned out well. It will be great for next year, even if you don’t get a chance to finish it this year. You’ve done better than me with your baking. I know I wouldn’t have nearly as much success with decorating. I bet they’re yummy.
ReplyDeleteOh your tiny tree is so great! I keep seeing all these people who have finished. I saved the steps. LOL I have a gingerbread cut out that looks similar. It was my great grandmothers.
ReplyDeleteI have done some baking and most of it has already been eaten! I have not made my fruitcake (similar to your Christmas cake maybe) but I will and more cookies but now that it is mostly just two of us I make them off and on throughout the month and we nibble and I give some away
ReplyDeleteYou sure did a lot of baking ... I think the wee gingerbread men look cute and I'm surethe grandies will love them...
ReplyDeleteThe tiny tree is lovely , would be nice if you had time to quilt it...
Well--you are more than half way through the 31 day challenge--good for you--I have been reading each day too--
ReplyDeleteI love gingerbread men--all sizes and shapes and with all kinds of interesting details--
so yours are 'cute' in my book!!!
I am about to head out to my kitchen and start mixing up some dough to chill over night--for baking Thursday/Friday--at least that is my plan and the butter is getting softened on the counter--now if those darn elves would show up and do it for me-----
luv, di
I like blocks 9 & 11..and the finished article is good.
ReplyDeleteWhose laughing, I don't even know how to make Gingerbread men! The kids will love them. Your tiny tree turned out well. As I'm a bit of a wuss with mystery sew alongs, I wanted to see what it looked like before committing myself. So yes, I may well go ahead and make my own version, a little bit bigger I think, can't cope with tiny little pieces.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with keeping up with you daily blogging pledge.
Well done with the baking, no laughing here at your gingerbread men, I have never made them either!! I get them for #2 son at the supermarket!! Your tree looks amazing , well done on the finish. You have are going really well with your daily blog challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour gingerbread men are so cute! I know it takes extra time that you would probably like to spend at your machine but I love reading your daily blog posts! Almost like being there! Except the weather is really cold here!
ReplyDeleteYour tiny tree is adorable! Quilted or not, it is lovely!! I had to go look up the difference between a Sultana, raisin and currents!! I rarely use any of them in my baking as I don't really like raisins. One of these years I'll have to be in England/Australia/New Zealand for Christmas and give all those treats a try. Your gingerbread men are wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy.... I have done NO baking this Christmas..... scrouge strikes again. Love the little tree..... it's come up lovely...
ReplyDeleteIts Christmas gingies!!! not Halloween!!! haha... they will taste good!
Hugz
I can almost smell the wonderful scent of Gingerbread cookies wafting about me as I sit here at the computer. I love how your tiny tree turned out. You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteEdible is all that matters. Your Tiny Trees looks so cute. I finished mine up today. It’s a sweet little pattern.
ReplyDeleteThose trees are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to do any Christmas baking, maybe over the weekend.
Gosh... very impressed with your tiny tree. I seem to have stalled in "can't make a decision" land and although I've cut out the setting triangles haven't got any further with construction.
ReplyDeleteWell done getting on top of your baking and your tree. Quite an achievement!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the gingerbread cuties.
Your Tiny Tree looks fabulous... great job!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas!
Both the Gingerbread men and the tree came out great!
