I didn't intend to go swimming today...

...but when I went down the farm to feed my horses this morning I discovered that one of them was in the river. He must have been grazing close to the edge and the dry crumbly bank given way. His little friend was standing there whinnying and telling him to get out straight away but the bank was too high for him to jump up and out. While I was investigating places to get him out I slipped down into the river too; luckily it wasn't as cold as it looked but it did come all the way up to the top of my thighs! Finally I found a spot to get him out -  helped by a bit of coaxing with a feed bucket! He must have been there a while as he was rather cold but I filled him up with hay and he was good as gold this afternoon. My gumboots, however, are still drying out!

On the sewing front, I have finished sewing on the 9 metres of binding on the chocolate quilt and my thimble skills are much improved. I was getting quite slick at it by the end!  I quilted the top myself (did I mention that it was a King Sized quilt??!!) but as you can see by the photos, I only did straight lines with a quilting foot...not quite brave enough to do anything more fancy with the darning foot.

I have done a little bit of free motion quilting on my previous quilt but I definately need more practice!

ED comes home tonight and her birthday is tomorrow so I'm pleased to have finished it ahead of time (just).... and yaay now I can plan my next project!

What is it with pets and quilts....?

The chocolate quilt for my ED has been progressing nicely; I am at the stage of sewing all the blocks together to form the top. It took me quite a while to arrange them to my satisfaction on the spare bed BUT DO YOU THINK THESE TWO CARE!!!!!?
I had been so careful to shut the door when I wasn't near but popping off to make a coffee was my downfall!!
I'm really liking the combination of chocolatey-rich browns with the pinks.

At times I stress about what colours go where and if this colour should really be used and so on (ie have I got too many different shades of pink here?!) but then I was looking at some roses I cut for the table the other day. I had flowers from lots of different plants and realised it was quite a mish-mash of colours, lots of different shades of pink and the odd red and it didn't matter at all!! They looked great! (And smelt lovely too!) So maybe I need to lighten up a bit in my colour arranging and not worry so much!! The photo doesn't illustrate what I mean very well but I hope you see what I'm trying to say.
