We didn't have as many stops yesterday, so not nearly as many photos!
We continued heading north and crossed the border from Victoria into New South Wales at some stage.
We left West Wyalong and detoured out to Weethalle to visit the silos we'd forgone the night before because we'd chatted too much and run out of light!
There was a cafe in the old railway station and carriages which I didn't photograph but this cute old bank was in the area there too.
We've seen lots of these gorgeous old buildings but I haven't photographed many-
Condoblin is also the home of The Painted Utes. We weren't sure what to expect from the road as the area was being developed. We'd also heard that the floods had been through but we weren't disappointed.
I took photos of the plaques telling the story behind each ute but time is of the essence so you're just getting a few photos! Just enjoy the artistry!
More driving followed...unfortunately it was dusk again so there was the concern of kangaroos on the road. Gladly we didn't see any but I wouldn't have minded seeing the odd one from afar!
We've spent a nice night at Gilgandra and this morning we're heading to Baradine where, finally, Scrub Stitching will start!!!! There is a quilt shop on the way that we Must Visit but it's not a big driving day and we'll arrive well and truly by lunchtime.
Bring it on!
'Til next time,
Happy stitches,
(PS I don't have time to edit this so apologies in advance! I'm not sure when I'll have wifi again!)
Hope you've enjoyed the last part of your drive - more beautiful art and the cars are unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteI love all the amazing art you and Sue have seen along the way. And I am no expert on selfies, but I'd say this one looks real good!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the fun you gals get up to in Baradine!
I have to say again thanks so much for sharing all these stops on your long drive to the quilt retreat. that is the kind of stuff I am interested in - I don't mind cities but other than a few things they all seem the same to me after awhile, but I like to see the land were people settled and these small town areas The are so interesting and all the artistry is wonderful
ReplyDeleteSuch very interesting sights...thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThe artwork and imagination are just amazing. Loved following along on your voyage.
ReplyDeleteWhat a drive you are having, it's so great you both have the time to stop and enjoy the sights along the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your road trip. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteNow those statues remind me of something in North Dakota, called the Enchanted Highway. An artist bought bits of land or leased from ranchers along the highway. He put up bigger than life-size pieces of art based on famous paintings or history - like dinosaurs! My husband and I loved it, and I'd like to see it again. This reminded me very much of those. I guess Art crosses a lot of boundaries! Your silos are, again, quite unique and innovative. I'm guessing by the time I read this, you two had arrived - maybe a nap? LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Raewyn, wow! What great public art and architecture. Have a great time and safe travels!
ReplyDeleteI haven’t seen the utes before - they look great! If you are going past my town on your way back to Melbourne give me a shout out
