I was quick to get my walk done this morning so that I could get organised for my day.
In April last year I went to Australia for the Scrubstitching Bush Retreat. Kiwikid Sue and I met at Melbourne and did a road trip up to it. We all had a blast over the weekend and were all set to do the same again this year.
But of course Covid-19 came along and thwarted our plans.
Chooky was the main organiser of the retreat and to ease the pain organised a virtual retreat for us all today.
We connected via Zoom and spent much of the day stitching and chatting.
We all received a project to work on - mine arrived at the 11th hour - actually 30 mins into it today! Whew, my faith in Australia-NZ post restored.
The project was a pouch designed for us by Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched, very sweet.
It was lovely to spend the time with each other especially as we're all a little socially starved at the moment.
This was my mess by the end of it all!!
I didn't get as far as some (I had several interruptions with small people raiding the orchard, then a video call with the newborn) but it shouldn't take me long to complete it.
Thanks Chooky for arranging it, thanks Anni for the projects and for joining us, and thanks ladies for your company and entertainment :-)
As I said, it was a shorter no-nonsense walk today. I just realised it's Day 18 of walking - I had hoped to do one every day so I'm pleased that I've been able to keep it up.
Just across the road and up the first hill again.
Again, my walk coincided with cow shifting time - coming down the hill they went up yesterday morning!
I took the photo below to (maybe) help people get orientated. I was across the road from the house (and the main farm) and looking across at these hills.
So, looking at the near hills (rather than the ones in the far background!) and starting at the one on the extreme left that looks like it doesn't have a track...that's where I was yesterday, the highest so far. The next one with the paddock in a bit of a diamond shape is the one I've climbed a couple of times, and a good spot for playing Where's Wally from.
There's a wee circle of pasture you can see along one, I haven't climbed that yet as the track is a little steep and offputting but I'll do it soon. The paddock up the hill on the right is the one I climbed *this* day.
It was interesting to notice the cows eating. They definitely seem to prefer the bale of silage down the centre of the paddock - the others at the sides can't have smelt quite as good!
YD's just sent me this photo through which I'm sure she won't mind me sharing.
Easter Bunny's had a bit of a nibble of his carrot and left something that looks suspiciously like a treasure hunt envelope —

I followed the song of a Tui and managed to spot him high up. You can only just see his white throat feathers.

'til next time,
safe and happy stitches,
It was just fabulous today how Chooky organised us all for a virtual GTG and I'm enjoying stitching the project Anni designed. Great to put faces to many lovely ladies names whom I have followed on blogs.
ReplyDeleteI had another picturesque walk with you again today. mine gets a little boring going round in circles on the block....
that is nice that you were able to have a video chat with your quilting blog friends over there. Your land looks wonderful - have a wonderful Easter I know it won't be the same but have a good day anyhow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post. Your virtual quilt retreat sounds like the next best thing to being physically together. How wonderful your package arrived, just 30 minutes late. Yeah. I've always wondered about how cows move around and find a particular spot. I guess that is why they are "herders". Must also explain why I also enjoy watching them. That bird was HUGE! Maybe someday you can do blog post (or series) sharing more insights about birds in your area. Definitely different than what I see here in Southern California.
ReplyDeleteThe wonderful Chooky. She is so good. It looks like a great wee project that Anni organised for you, have fun finishing it off.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the Easter Bunny delivered for the orchard thieves. LOL
great to have had a virtual scrub stitching.... what fun...

It was wonderful to have the catch up yesterday and virtual sew along. Chooky did a great organising job. Your post delivery certainly was well timed. You are doing so well with your walks especially going up those big hills!! Always great to see views around your farm. So good to see Easter Bunny made a visit in these difficult times.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to spend the day catching up. Glad you had a great time.
