The first thing I did when I got up this morning was to dive into my Tilda stash and find another fabric for the Month One Foxley Village block I finished last night.
It had been bugging me. I was only part-way happy with what I'd done.
I felt there was too much difference in colours/tone between the applique part and the pieced part. The applique one looked too bright in comparison.
This morning's walk was a 'quick flat one' - I still did 2.8 kms and it took me an hour by the time I chatted to the horses, stopped to take photos or to look at this and that!
I do realise the routes I take can get a little confusing. As a bit of a challenge I try to take a slightly different path each time.
After crossing the bridge, I had the choice of turn right, left or straight ahead.

A messy unpick |
The darker blue fabrics replaced with this brighter one |
After. Subtle difference. |
Reject squares to the right. |
I spent the afternoon doing some cross hatch quilting but it's a top secret project I cant share yet :-)

I went right to the paddock at the end of the race. |
This tree always amuses me; it looks like it should be totally dead, but isn't.
I walked past the Dead Tree Paddock. Original name huh?! —
Emma accompanied me again today. After turning back, we walked along the edge of the bush.
And a roundabout way home so I could check out the MOML doing some firewood. He's realised that two of our families aren't able to come out this autumn to carry on with their firewood (Lockdown rules) so I think that this will be his fulltime job for a while now. (We usually supply four houses with firewood but mostly everyone comes out and chips in with the job).
Time for bed,
Take care and stay well,
happy stitches,
wow your husband will be very busy getting all that firewood ready for the family besides all else that you all do on the farm. Your lock down is very strict - I hope it works.
ReplyDeleteThere is only a slight difference in the block but as long as you are happy now....
ReplyDeleteMy hubby used to cut fire wood for four homes to many years ago so he built a cradle with a saw on a trailer to make it easier ...
Still has it in our shed..
Looks good either way. Your Emma is so cute.
ReplyDeleteIts always better if you fix a block if it is bugging you... or it will always stand out.... no lockdown rest for your farmer...

Your block looks wonderful, I liked it both ways. Very aptly named paddock there!! Some trees just hang on for ever, we had one near here that had grown in a circle, I don't know if it had fallen over early days. Sadly it did fall over last winter and is gone now. Nice Emma dog came with you, good to have company on your walks. The MOYL will be very busy cutting firewood for 4 households.
ReplyDeleteYes - I can see the second block is better...Your MOML is going to be busy...I love wood fires...they don't happen here.
ReplyDeleteThe block looks good. It’s worth fixing something your not happy with, as you’ll always notice it. It’s the little things you take for granted that we can’t do, such as the firewood. My brother has fortunately been able to still go and get his, while also giving my niece some learner driving time, which is still allowed.
ReplyDeleteChopping logs will be keeping him busy for quite a while if he is to supply all 4 houses.
ReplyDeleteYour block still looks lovely, well worth fixing if it is going to bug you.
I'm enjoying your walks.
Although I struggle to see the difference... I'm sure you will be happy you made the changes to the block. Sometimes it's difficult on these monthly projects to achieve a nice balance throughout the quilt... lots of imagination and planning required! Often once seen as a whole the small elements that cause angst just blend in.
ReplyDeleteRaewyn - I looked back and forth several times to see the differences in the blocks, and it was subtle. The important thing is for you to be satisfied! Glad you are able to get out and about for a walk. We are going for a hike tomorrow and I suspect we won't see a soul!
