Muffins and a spot of sewing

I've had the odd thought lately that I get so much enjoyment from my daily walks because it's a form of escapism. I can switch off, enjoy nature around me and let my thoughts wander anywhere they want to go.
Then I asked myself if that was a bad thing or not. Is escapism okay?
I've decided it is; I'm sure it refreshes and recharges the brain.
However I have started trying to consciously plan my day while out walking so that I don't get home again and have no idea where to start with the things I want to get done!
Sometimes I start planning and then my mind wanders off again.
Today however I had one thought on my mind and that was to make some muffins for lunch! I sped up so I could get home to have them cooked in time!
Apple, passionfruit and white chocolate muffins. Fresh from the oven, with the chocolate chunks still gooey, they were absolutely delicious and well worth speeding my steps for! I have a basic recipe I alter the ingredients of, depending on what's on hand.

A few months ago YD asked if she could have my old machine to use. Before handing it over I had it serviced for her and while I was at it, got my overlocker serviced too.
I have barely used it in years but now that it's oiled and set up I find it a handy thing to have nearby. My DIL has been doing a bit of sewing during the lockdown and made the girls some nighties. She didn't realise how much brushed cotton frays so I offered to overlock the edges for her. So this afternoon's job was to make a start on those.
I did two nighties and have two more to do - tomorrow's job I think.
I quickly sewed up one more of the pieced blocks for Foxley Village. This one is called Sister's Choice —

Katie-Cat, our elderly shed cat thought she'd come with Emma and  I for today's walk.
She walked down the first hill and then sat and watched us carry on from a fence post.
I went over the bridge and up the first hill again, so you've seen this view before —
There are two paddocks just over the brow of the hill so I walked through those, along the bush line for a change of scenery.
I tried to get some photos looking down into the bush. I was at the bottom of the paddock and you can see how the bush just goes on and on!
On our way home —
I was happy to get some nice Fantail photos today. Maybe there was something in the air, they lingered slightly longer so I could snap them!
'til next time,
safe and happy stitches,

  1. I like the sister's choice block, I was going to use that pattern once for something and never got around to it. I think our daily walks help with out mental health right now plus our overall health as well.

  3. The stitching is beautiful. What an amazing talent to have. I ahve always been in awe and sewers and patchworkers. And your walks! I live in suburbia and get a bit wistful when I go for a walk, as there is nothing like nature (sigh).

  4. Escapism is a requirement at my house, but not by walking. It's probably anything, but what I should be doing.

Love your blocks and photos, but especially your cat!

  5. Yummy sounding muffins.
The fantails do seem to be friendlier at this time of year. I had one hang out with me at the washing line the other day.

  6. The muffins sound delicious, I'm sure they were highly appreciated at lunch time. Good photo of the fan tail, they are such pretty birds, always flitting here and there looking for insects.

  9. The muffins look and sound yummy. I think our walks more than ever are extra good for us on many levels the same with sewing. That's great your daughter is using this time to get some sewing done.

  10. I’ve just been catching up on your last few days. Your walks are still fun to join you on. The scrub near the hairpin is gorgeous. Yes, things do look a bit greener. Your Scrub Stitchin’ pouch turned out well. Are you going to have the needle book done before the weekend? I haven’t started mine. It’s good to see your tyres gradually getting stitched down. Those muffins look delicious. There had been more baking than usual at our house too.

  11. Such a great photo of the fantail, I have only once been able to capture a shot of one and even then it was a little blurry. You do have some stunning walks and it's good to get away alone for a while. Your muffins look delicious, bet they were melt in the mouth

  14. I think your walks must be good value. Definitely a good way to keep mind and body active.
    Yummy muffins!
It is funny how we go in fits and starts with things like overlockers. I used mine so much when I had young children, but gave it away after many years of letting it sit there. Good to see you finding ways to make it useful again.
