Day 16 of Block a Day December

Well I went down a real rabbit hole this afternoon - or was I chasing squirrels?
A few years ago (2015 in fact) I made some cute little Christmas decorations and a runner using a pattern that was offered on the Fat Quarter Shop's site (no longer available) —
The pattern was probably for a runner but I had downsized it to make these tree decorations, which I gifted. The other day I found an unfinished one....I either ran out of time or it was the first one I was experimenting with. It was all but finished, it just needed to have a ribbon attached and then be sewn up across the top.
However when I looked at it the other day I thought 'Pincushion'. So 'pincushion' it now is —
It's approx 2"x 3" so is a cute little size. I filled it with walnut shell.
I didn't even realise I needed a Christmas pincushion but it's so nice to have one now :-)

And so off down that rabbit hole. Yes, today's block is a bigger version of that block —
This one is 6" wide. I think it will be quite cute to make a quilt full of these - a great use of my Christmas scraps.
I didn't know I needed to start a new project (and have been trying so hard not to) but there you go. Sometimes things just take over.

'til next time,
happy stitches,

  1. sometimes you find some little bit and you just have to use it - it worked out great for a pin cushion!

  2. Those are adorable blocks. They make sweet ornaments and wee pincushions. No doubt they will be a very festive quilt one day.

  3. I have noticed how some little project or block --or even a quilt top you are working one--
Decides to talk to you--and sometimes they just plain yell at you with what and how they want to be finished--like the one I was working on this morning--I had planned another border on it and had it all cut out--but that darn top said to me--NO stop--we don't want any more borders--we like it just the way you have us now--simple!!! So who am I to argue with a quilt!!
    have a great day-luv, di
