YD had asked for a beanie for her wee boy so I organised myself to get it done this week. Now that it's March the temperatures are changing and I thought I'd better get onto it.
She has several baby hats that are chunky but really wanted one that was of a finer yarn. One good thing about crafting for newborns is that the items are small and don't take long to make.
I knew I may not get the sizing right - while he's newborn, he was a big newborn, so I'm happy to make another one and donate this one to charity if I have to.
I decided it was the perfect project for Friday Night With Friends, kindly hosted by Cheryll.
I had a bit of time to knit on Friday afternoon while babysitting the toddler-twins - they had a nice long sleep which helped re-charge Ganma's batteries.
(The pattern I used was from Ravelry and can be found *here*.)
I fitted in a wee bit more stitching on my secret stitchery project before tumbling off to bed.
Later in the afternoon we went out the back of the farm to feed the youngstock and do the water (something the MOML does at least once a day but I haven't been out for a week or so). It's looking pretty bad out there and we're hoping March brings some decent rains.
I have grand plans for today so will sign off now and get myself organised :-)

I got to the part where I needed to do some googling as the pattern said to finish with a 3-stitch icord - hmm - that was like a foreign language to me!
On Friday evening I worked it out - wow, what a cool technique and before I knew it, the beanie was completed, except for the two ends to darn in.
I wonder if the beanie needs a longer 'body', but will try it on the wee fellow and make adjustments as needed for version two.(The pattern I used was from Ravelry and can be found *here*.)

I had lots of time to myself on Saturday so managed some quilting time —
The odd thread to tidy up and then I'll be at the binding stage - yaay! I'm actually on track for finishing my monthly goal this month!Later in the afternoon we went out the back of the farm to feed the youngstock and do the water (something the MOML does at least once a day but I haven't been out for a week or so). Happy stitches,
hope you get rain soon - it always seems like by the end of summer we always need rain too. The hat sure is cute!
ReplyDeleteThat little beanie is sooooo cute Raewyn, I like the little bit on the top. Good to read you for the quilting done on the baby quilt. I hope you get some rain very soon, I heard there was heavy rain in Tauranga last week, it needs to nudge up north!!

Hopefully you will get some much needed rain soon. Such a cute beanie. You can find out how to do anything on "google".
ReplyDeletecute beanie :) hope you get some rain soon :)
ReplyDeleteLove the beanie as well. You are definitely multi-talented.
ReplyDeleteAdorable beanie!! The foreground in the picture of the cows and your MOML is the color it is where I live as well. Dry winter here (about 67% of normal), as we move into spring, it doesn't bode well. I hope you get rain soon, just no flooding!!
ReplyDeleteCute beanie! I haven’t tried an I-cord yet—is it difficult? Thank goodness for google/you-tube/how-to knitting videos! I’d be lost without them!
ReplyDeleteI admire your knitting skills. I MIGHT be able to follow a crochet pattern for a cap like that, if I googled the stitches I have forgotten, but I don't think I have done any knitting in the past 50 years!
ReplyDeleteSo how much longer are we to be teased by your secret stitching project before we get to see the whole thing? :)
Quilting looks good--look forward to seeing that whole project, too.
Hoping you get that rain very soon!!
What a cute beanie - fortunately my grandchild lives in the tropics - so maybe a sun hat is required.no beanie though.
ReplyDeletegosh your land is dry too - like AU has been.
we are getting rain on the coast at least - and Chooky has had some which is wonderful.
Wishing rain for you soon. Cute beanie!
ReplyDeleteYou are a very talented lady! I don't think there is anything you can't do. Loved the little beanie and I know it will be appreciated with cooler weather coming. Hope you receive rain soon.
ReplyDeleteLoved having you stop in for FNwF. Keep on knitting...xox
ReplyDeleteHowdy my dear friend. That hat is so cute. I love the shape of it. Nice stitching on the secret stitch also. I love what you've done with the shades of green. The Stitching with friends sounds interesting. I'll have to stop over and take a look for sure. You have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet little hat. Looks very soft.
ReplyDeleteWe have finally received good rain. Hope you do too.
