Reminiscing....

After yesterday's post I was reminiscing about my pattern testing for Juliet of Tartankiwi....wondering how many of her designs I had sewn over the years.
According to my blog diary (!) the first one I ever tested was the Fantail, back in 2013. I love this wee bird, it's a common sight here flitting around the trees and gardens.
Another that year was this Tui. I remember being so excited about the fabrics I found for the wings, the colours were just perfect, I thought!
In the photo below, Timmie cat is doing some hunting... I said I'd write about the bird at the top of the picture but never did. I'll have to hunt him out and see exactly what he's all about!!
Fast forward to 2014 and here are some I tested —
The combi-van
The Kowhai flower
I didn't actually test this pattern but Juliet ran a butterfly challenge and here is my version.
This it the first of the blocks I've shown so far that has become a finished item! I made this block into a cushion.
Juliet ran another quiltalong in 2014 and I was fortunate to be asked to help test the blocks for this too. It was called In Flight. Here are some of the ones I made (I have made more but their photographs didn't make it to my blog!) —
The Swallow
(Both used the same blue background, more like the first of the two photos)
The Swift
In 2016 I made these two Woodland Creatures blocks —
Both of these have also been sewn up into cushions. They are in the children's bedroom and are well loved.
I adore this Otter block made in 2107 —
Another pattern I adored making, the cheeky Emu (18" square) —
These wee birds in 2018 were a great make too. They are 6" blocks —
Also in 2018 were the dog series. The Scottie Dog —
The Basset Hound —
Both became cushions we use every day —
This fellow —
Earlier this year the Hedgehog joined the team —
Another one of our every day cushions —
Also earlier this year - the start of the Penguin parade —
Whew!! As I said, there are more I haven't photographed for my blog! That will be a job for another day, going through those blocks! I think somehow that I may be addicted to her patterns! She is a talented designer and her patterns are very well written. And it's interesting to see how her talents have developed over the years!
'til next time,
happy stitches,

  3. Oh, I love them all, but the emu really caught my eye...I have a daughter who was pecked by one when she was about 3 years old (stole a bandage off her finger) and has been terrified by them ever since! I would love to make that for her to hang in her home!! For me, the hedgehog is my idea of heaven...in my favorite color as well!!

  9. The bird your cat is eying up is a Kokako, one of the wattle birds, and quite endangered these days. But you probably looked up your notes and found his name by now.
