A finish!

I don't seem to have many these days so it's exciting to be sitting here announcing a QUILT finish!
Back in February I shared a wee peek of some blocks I was making and I haven't talked about them since. The blocks are from a Sampler Quilt by Pen + Paper Patterns.
The fabrics I used are from various Poppie Cotton ranges, and the sewing was for the New Year's Launch at The Country Yard (discussed *here*) .
The block numbers multiplied and by March I finally had a top; basting time —
Firstly I quilted in all the blocks —
Then I started on the background fill —
It was a silly idea to do such a busy fill, but once I'd started I had to keep going - unless I wanted to unpick it all!!
By the time the New Year's Launch came around I wasn't finished. However, I sewed a bit of binding on and tidied it up. It looked reasonably presentable - and I'd done enough for people to see - it was/is a Block of the Month for the shop.
However I brought it home and have now finished the quilting.
Serious shot —
Close - up —
Fun shot —
Orchard shot (with no chickens) —
Corner showing how I did the binding. I used a tutorial by Karen of Karen's Quilts, Crows and Cardinals. I love this technique/finish and have used it many times over the years. It is a nice way to machine sew on a binding.
And because I couldn't decide which orchard/over the gate shot to use, here's another one!
'til next time,
happy stitches,

  8. Such a fun quilt and great to get it finished. I have some of those fabrics, and this week I had some girls here and one was doing that same binding! Now I have seen it twice in a week, does that mean I need to do it on one of my quilts??

  9. What a beauty! I’m sure lots of ladies will join in the BOM. Your quilting and the flange binding are the perfect finishing touches. Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I may try it one day.

  12. Beautiful shots! This is a great quilt, lovely fabrics and colors, and beautiful blocks together. Your quilting is awesome!

The flange binding by machine is demonstrated on Brenda's Conquering Mount Scrapmore YouTube channel, and I like it a lot. I don't like doing any binding, don't like machine binding the way it turned out before, but the flange does help and covers a multitude of sins, so to speak.

  19. It is spring in the northern hemisphere so your quilt is timed perfectly. Love all the fun blocks. The snail is so cute. Congratulations on a beautiful finish and a successful photoshoot. When I finish a quilt, I pick a park with a lake or go to the banks of the Potomac river, and sometimes to a botanical garden with paid entry for a photoshoot. So I am slightly jealous that you have so many fun places to shoot right in your backyard. The chickens make everything fun :-)

  21. Wow this is a real beauty Raewyn! That quilting—! I had to enlarge some of the pics so I could drool/gaze at the motifs more closely! I love the last shot, but the one with the chickens is terrific too. Are you going to keep this one?
