FNSI started off with a hiss and a roar with some free motion quilting, but slowed down considerably when I decided I really didn't like the colour thread I was using. So I swapped my sewing machine for a quick-unpic; a pity I didn't make that decision before stitching out 4 spines and one side of some feathers!
Never mind, a bit of dogged determination and soon (-ish) the job was done.
The unpicking was helped by a bit of much needed comfort food, (self-saucing chocolate pudding).
I decided not to spend the evening doing any more machine work so I pulled out my Chateau Hexagon instead.
I had kept up really well with the first few blocks but let myself get behind.
Timmie helped me tonight and we made some good progress.
I just have two bees to stitch then I can call Block Four done.
After the frustrating start it was a pleasant evening! Hopefully today I will get back to those feathers with my new thread colour!!Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Happy Stitching!
what a cute block Raewyn and so glad Timmie was there to help you, lol.xx
ReplyDeleteoooohhhh... reverse free motion quilting.. that's a new one! but better than having an end result you don't like....
ReplyDeletesuch a lovely block
Hugz
Oohh Raewyn I know how you feel - I have spent the morning unpicking Oilcloth !! Not fun at all. I am so glad Timmie was there to help you with your block which is looking lovely. I have that self saucing choc pudding recipe - now I feel like making it :-) Happy weekend to you, Julie x0x
ReplyDeleteBetter to unpick than be disappointed down the road! Love your stitcheries!
ReplyDeleteOh no not good when we are not happy with the colour thread. You will be happy you did unpick.
ReplyDeleteAt least you are on block three for your stitchery, I am still on one....
yummmmmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteLove your geese....too cute.
Noting worse than reverse sewing, but I'm sure you'll be happy you did it in the end. Love the sneak peaks of the stitcheries you're working on : Barb.

ReplyDeleteAt least the unseeing is done now. Very cute blocks. That chocolate pudding would have made me feel better too x
ReplyDeleteYou have to be happy with the result. Always better to unpick than constantly wish you had. That pudding would have made you feel better.
ReplyDeleteLovely progress on your new block.
Yikes, unpicking is never fun. Glad you had a 'helper' for your sewing evening. Good luck with the quilting this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that chocolate pudding saved the day ... would surely save mine! :o)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the reverse sewing. Your block is looking very nice, and I see you have a lovely assistant!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just have to walk away from unpleasantness and come back to it after the bad memories aren't so fresh. : )
ReplyDeleteBlock four looks very cute!
Wow that choc pudding looks amazing
ReplyDeleteBetter to unpick than persevere and not like the final result. But frustrating all the same! Cute geese on your other block!
ReplyDeletethat is one draw back to machine work unpicking is so tiresome and can take so long. the Lynette project is coming along beautifully, I have just ordered her autumn and winter books could not resist them!
ReplyDeleteYour stitching looks fantastic...yummo
ReplyDeleteIt happens sometimes. You just know when you have to stop and unpick. Hope you found a better thread today. Lovely stitching.
ReplyDeleteI love your geese, too. L. Andersen's patterns are really lovely...yours will be gorgeous...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeletethe molten chocolate looks like a day saver adorable block
ReplyDeleteNo fun unpicking but best to do it now than be unhappy with your project later . Cute little stitchery you are working on .
ReplyDeleteVery pleased to come across your lovely blog Raewin!I'll be following.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.

I do understand the frustration of free motion stitching. I tried it on my standard Janome which doesn't have a walking foot - one big mess!!!!
ReplyDeleteTimmie is a lovely assistant to calm you down!
Shane
Pity, you had to inpick, but your Chateau Hexagon is so lovely! And Timmie and comfort food is always helping to feel good again.
ReplyDeleteI love your little collection of thimbles!
Have a nice week, Cisca
Your chateau hexagon block looks lovely, I love the flower on the goose's back! Your pudding looks yummy too.
ReplyDeleteShame about the unpicking - very frustrating. Love your embroidery though and as for Timmie - he is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Raewyn, sorry to hear you had a frustrating start, but your other stitching looks gorgeous. It's always good to have a helper (I always have one here too lol), and a bit of chocolate anything always helps too!
ReplyDeleteComfort food always helps with the unpicking. Little progress is great progress in the long run.
ReplyDeleteWho ate all the chocolate pudding... you or Timmie? He looks full up and flaked out on your stitching. Guess you were the one doing all the work! So it's to be or not two bees...:o) they'll keep till another time. Great work on both your forward and reverse stitching.
ReplyDeleteChateau Hexagon is looking terrific, and I'm sure the comfort food really added to the creativity .
ReplyDeleteDear Raewyn,
ReplyDeleteyour Timmy helps you as well as my Moses does. Both are so good in sewing, it´s unbelievable. Thats so nice to see.
Many hugs from Germany

Very pretty block. Unpicking is not a lot of fun, but neither is having work you are not happy with. Thinking ugh! I should have changed that each time you look at it...is very not fun lol
ReplyDeleteWell a slow start didn't stop you getting plenty done Raewyn! Your Chateau Hexagon is looking so pretty...
ReplyDeleteYour version of comfort food is the same as mine -- chocolate helps cure (or at least block out) our troubles and worries so well. That looks REALLY good.
ReplyDeleteUnpicking can be such an endless task, but better that than being unhappy with something we did.
I think you are a real artist, Raewyn, since in my opinion the real artist knows when his or her work needs an unpick (in this case).
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jeanneke.
Hi Raewyn - your Chateau hexagon is looking great - shame about the FM unpick, I hope you will be happier with the next colour!
ReplyDeletemachine quilting is not fun to pick out.
ReplyDeletethe dessert looks super yummy.
love your embroidery block.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that will pick out thread. Such a hard job. But if you get chocolate cake with sauce it's totally worth it. Love the stitchery you are doing, love the ducks and the colors.
ReplyDeleteCute geese block :)
ReplyDeleteYour choc pudding looks wonderful!
Hugs,
Tatyana
