When I got up this morning I did not intend to sew scraps...
More scrap play followed and I also put this together. I've always been fascinated with Cathedral Window blocks and came across this tutorial recently.
The day started sedately enough, I did some needleturn applique ... and made a little progress on one of the blocks from Just takes Two. (This was a BOM from last year.)
Block 27 |
After feeding the animals and playing outside a bit, I sat down to lunch and browsed through 'Best of Fons and Porter Star Quilts". I suddenly realised the mini quilt I was looking at had star blocks which finished at 1 1/2 inches!!! Rising to the (self-imposed!) challenge, before I knew it I was rummaging through my smallest scraps and ignoring any other plans for the day!!
Isn't it just too cute for words?! Finished size - 1 1/2" Think I may have to make a few more of these - a great use for tiny scraps!! |
Just so you can get an idea of the size!! (BTW - pieced, not foundation pieced) |
It needs touching up in the odd place but I am pretty happy with it. It will make a sweet pincushion. |
Today I'm linking up to Scrapbasket Sunday on Kim's Big Quilting Adventure. To play along, and visit other scrappy playing, visit here.
Thank you for visiting, happy creating,
Your appliqué looks beautiful.......and that tiny little star is adorable. Very well done.
ReplyDeleteWow - 1 1/2 finished.....how tiny were the pieces and how fiddly to stitch....well done. Nice to see you bloggging again Raewyn after your holiday!!!

Your tiny block is so sweet...but no way would I ever make a thing that teeny and tiny...you are to be commended! Yay you! And your pin cushion is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThat is one TEENY block - wow! I love Cathedral Window blocks too and think starting with a pincushion is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYES!! I LOVE your teeny star--that shouldn't come as any surprise! : )
ReplyDeleteSomeone gifted me one of those Cathedral Windows pincushions last year. They are great--you did a nice job.

ReplyDeleteSnapping ducks that is small!!! was it foundation pieced?
ReplyDeletePeople think I'm on the edge of madness cutting 1 1/2" squares for my scrappy quilt...........but you are starting with even smaller to get 1 1/2" squares!
Wow Raewyn that is tiny - especially when you see it beside your rotary cutter. I love your cathedral window - have been meaning to try that myself, would make a great pincushion :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! How tiny is that! Very cute. And your applique is wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteI can`t imagine a block being so small, will take a lot to make a quilt!!I also love the Cathedral window only trouble is it takes so much fabric.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute tiny star block! And the pincushion would look great with Cathedral window motive!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Tatyana
That mini block is right up my alley! I started 1 1/2" 9 patches and they are addicting.
ReplyDeleteOh my that is one tiny star , can't imagine piecing such small pieces and so successfully . The cathedral window is beautiful and will make a lovely pincushion .
ReplyDeleteThat teeny star is just adorable. How many have you got to make?
ReplyDeleteAmazing scrapette block, gosh I struggle to be accurate with a 12" block, lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tiny block. Don't you find piecing tiny blocks to be like eating candy? After you finish each one you just have to make another. Love, love, love them!
ReplyDeleteYour needle turn block is lovely, and the tiny star is gorgeous. I like the cathedral window too, I always mean to make one sometime too!
ReplyDeleteOf course your applique is gorgeous!! Love it!! And your little cathedral window will make a darling pincushion - but okay that teeny weeny star is just so, so, so cute!! Gotta make some - are you going to do a tutorial - or do I just figure it out myself (which might be the hard way!! LOL)
